RoC is a French line of anti wrinkle and anti aging skin care products. Recently, our visitors have asked us for an opinion on RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream - one of the several RoC products designed to fight wrinkles.

Correxion comes in a one-ounce tube that retails for approximately $19.95 -- extremely inexpensive compared to competing anti wrinkle creams. Read on to learn more.

RoC Retinol Correxion ingredients

RoC Retinol Correxion

RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream contains two exfoliating ingredients: citric acid (Vitamin C) and glycolic acid. Both of these ingredients are useful in helping to rid the skin of old, dead cells on the skin's surface and stimulating enhanced skin cell growth and renewal.

Correxion also contains squalene, an oil derived from olive oil that acts as a moisturizer. Shea butter is included in the formula -- both these ingredients function as moisturizers and play a soothing role.

We feel it is necessary to point out that Correxion also contains BHT (butylated hydroxytoluene), a preservative used in foods, in rubber and petroleum products, and in embalming fluid. BHT is a suspected mutagen and carcinogen, and has been outlawed as a food preservative in the UK, Japan, Australia, Romania and Sweden. Though the FDA has not declared BHT to be unsafe, it is not allowed to be added to baby food in the US. We recommend avoiding this additive whenever possible.

How to use Correxion

Apply to face and neck each night before going to bed. Correxion can be used alone or under a moisturizer. A mild tingling or redness may result after application - this is the acids removing the upper layers of the skin. This sensation may diminish over time, or, if you have extremely sensitive skin, it may persist.

Because Correxion is an exfoliant, it reveals the more sensitive lower layers of the skin. This skin is extremely sensitive to the sun. Therefore, you should apply a sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher during the day while using this product. Continue using a sunscreen for a minimum of one week even after stopping to use Correxion.

Correxion: our evaluation

RoC Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Night Cream is not exactly an anti wrinkle cream. It is instead an exfoliant. True, the exfoliating virtues of this product will help to give the skin a more youthful appearance. But Correxion does not contain any of the potent peptides most often found in today's leading anti wrinkle formulas. Correxion contains none of the powerful antioxidants (other than Vitamin C) available to today's skin care product manufacturers.

Considering these shortcomings, the bargain pricepoint of Correxion suddenly makes sense. Premium ingredients add significantly to the cost of manufacture and therefore are passed on to the consumer. In addition, the fact that Correxion contains BHT is a serious concern to us.

We would recommend Correxion as an adjunct to an antiwrinkle skin care product, but not as a replacement for one.
