Prevention of wrinkles

Whether you're starting early or you already have wrinkles, there are a lot of preventative steps you can take to minimize the effect of wrinkles on your face. This article lists the guidelines you should follow for the best prevention of wrinkles.

Quitting smoking helps prevent wrinkles

If you needed another reason to quit smoking, here it is: smoking makes wrinkles worse. Cigarette smoke is one of the most concentrated sources of free radicals known to man, and smoking exposes your skin to all those damaging free radicals. These can cause breakdowns in the upper layers of the skin, which hasten thinning of the skin and loss of elasticity - and wrinkles.

Smoking also robs your skin of moisture. Lack of moisture is unhealthy for the skin and can make existing wrinkles look even deeper.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation causes wrinkles

Stay out of the sun as much as possible, especially during the "danger hours" when UV light is at its peak (that's 10 am to 4 pm). UV light hastens the thinning of skin and wrinkles by damaging the epidermis and dermis. By the way - tanning salons are just as bad, or worse, than natural sunlight at causing wrinkles.

Always wear sunscreen on your face when going outside in the sunlight. Wear a hat, too, if you can. Remember to reapply your sunscreen after swimming or engaging in sweaty sports activities. A good sun block does a great deal to prevent wrinkles.

Moisturizing helps prevent wrinkles

When you moisturize your skin adequately, the epidermis stays healthy and hydrated. This prevents the epidermis from separating and sagging, creating wrinkles. So moisturize daily and make sure you're drinking enough water (minimum 64 oz. or 8 tumblers full) every day.

There are many moisturizers available that contain additional wrinkle prevention ingredients like antioxidants and sun block.

Develop a regimen now to prevent wrinkles

Everyone who is concerned about skin care should follow a daily regimen for maximum dermal health as well as to prevent wrinkles. Even if you have just the barest beginning of wrinkles, an anti wrinkle cream or product can frequently stop those developing wrinkles in their tracks and prevent them from becoming deeper and more noticeable.

Your daily regimen should consist of: washing, applying your anti wrinkle product, moisturizing and applying sun block. Most anti wrinkle products should only be used twice per day, morning and evening, and nearly all are compatible with a moisturizer.

It is important that you choose a good anti wrinkle product. Ineffective products will have little or no effect on wrinkles, while the best products can create noticeable improvements within a few weeks.
